BOONE, NC: What started off as a pipe dream, simply drawn up on a napkin and discussed over a casual lunch, became a reality when ECRS’ RAPTOR Accelerated Checkout was recently recognized at the 2015 RSPA Awards as the Customer Engagement Technology Winner for Independent Software Vendors. The Retail Solutions Providers Association (RSPA) awards ceremony was held at the RetailNOW Conference in Orlando, Florida and attended by more than 500.
The initial concept for RAPTOR Accelerated Checkout began when ECRS was invited, as part of a select group, to preview Datalogic’s Jade X7 scanner. Following this early preview, the ECRS team gathered for a brain-storming lunch near the airport. Excited by what they had just witnessed, the team challenged each other to completely clear the slate and come up with as many ideas as they could to take advantage of the incredibly innovative new scanning technology presented with the Jade X7. The ideas started flowing immediately, and a simple paper napkin became the starting point for development that would emerge as RAPTOR – a point of sale that dramatically improves the transaction experience for both consumer and cashier.
“Many of the features you see on RAPTOR today were dreamed up right there at that initial lunch meeting“ says Mark Noble, VP of Development. With less than three months until NRF’s Big Show, the development team dove head first into creating a working prototype in time for the show. RAPTOR was received with applause and overwhelming interest, so upon return, the team entered into an extensive development phase that culminated when RAPTOR hit the market and was subsequently installed in its first retail location in the spring of 2015. RAPTOR is an example of true teamwork, a pipe dream that quickly became reality through hard work, trial and error, and brilliant execution by the ECRS hardware and software development teams. Many of the patent pending features, devised during that important lunch meeting, were not only incorporated into RAPTOR, but became part of ECRS’ new-gen POS application, CATAPULT Transaction Server that now serves thousands of retail sites.
