The National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx™) is a real-time electronic logging system used by pharmacies and law enforcement to track sales of over-the-counter (OTC) cold and allergy medications containing precursors to the illegal drug, methamphetamine. The majority of states now require real-time electronic monitoring of precursor purchases through this national database to comply with federal pseudoephedrine tracking laws. To check if your state has legislation requiring NPLEx, click here.
To assist pharmacies with NPLEx compliance, the Catapult® point-of-sale system provides seamless integration with the national NPLEx database, driver’s license scanning, secure electronic data storage, and law enforcement required reporting.
Driver’s License Scanning
With approved scanning hardware and barcode-enabled IDs, Catapult offers quick and easy ID scanning at the POS. This feature provides expedited customer checkouts and improves accuracy when compared with manual data entry methods. The cashier must still visually compare the customer’s ID photo. This feature can also aid in age verification for other restricted items such as certain dietary supplements, alcohol, and tobacco products.
